Presented by John Trauger

Abstract
This week, on the occasion of Hubble's 25th birthday, highlights of the first major visible/NIR space observatory have been popping up in the media. Among the notable items is JPL's WFPC2, which played a pivotal role in the correction of HST's spherical aberration. This is a recollection of HST's darkest hours leading up to its first servicing mission in 1993.
