Abstract
The Decadal Survey of Astrophysics and Astronomy is an opportunity for the greater ASTRO community to provide input that help set priorities for the scientific direction of astronomy and astrophysics over a ten-year period. Since the first report in 1964, the survey has included commentary on the astronomical workforce, including concerns over education, training and career development. In this talk, I will review some of the history of what has become the survey's "State of the Profession" section and give 5 good reasons why you should care about the Decadal Survey's next "State of the Profession" section.
