Building Instruments to Study the Gas/Galaxy Interface

Abstract
How is star formation in galaxies modulated? How can we use (more easily) observable galaxies to get at the underlying cosmological structures that tell the story of our universe (and give hints for future evolution)? I will present several projects here - both observational, and instrumental - that explore the interface between galaxies and gas to understand the impact cosmological structures have on galaxies, and vice versa. From HETDEX, a large integral field survey on the 10m HET searching for dark energy, to Maratus, a proposed cubesat to stare at the CGM in an attempt to understand its structure, I'll show work we're doing to expose the connections from small(ish) to large scales.
